Ultima Final Fantasy | The Ultimate Final Fantasy Podcast

303

For over 5 years Ultima Final Fantasy took you on a journey through the entire Final Fantasy series; from the main games that you know and love, to obscure titles such as "My Life as a Darklord". Every game was played and reviewed, every major media release was touched on, and you got to hear all the stories, tangents, and life struggles of the hosts who went through it. For years the show was supported on Patreon, and you got to see goals reached such as multiple "Megadeth" Song Covers of classic Final Fantasy songs, a phone line, and Twitch streaming for the MMO's. All of these things, along with the Patreon Invite episodes, added so much to the show. Now here we are at the end of our journey, the end of the weekly show (although occasionally returning to discuss some of the other FF-related games). The show, and our lives, must go on in a different fashion. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for these amazing years.

    Quite the Journey
Found this podcast while looking up an OG FF7 review to kill time for work. Very happy I did. They do a great job of getting into most of the details regarding all the topics and a great job of keeping you listening. I’m quite impressed they touched on virtually every piece of FF media they could. I went back and listened to every episode and, while I hate to have caught this show at the end of its life cycle, I’m very happy I got to enjoy 6-7 months of binge listening. Good luck with wherever life takes you gentlemen. Hope to enjoy another episode for whenever Remake’s trilogy comes to a close.

    BORING
When the original hosts check out and let other fill in, you know they don’t care anymore. This show had become boring and dumb. Avoid at all costs!

This is the Ultimate FF podcast
Ultima Final Fantasy podcast is an absolute treasure for fans of the Final Fantasy series! The hosts are not only incredibly knowledgeable but also passionate about the games, and their enthusiasm shines through in each episode. Their deep dives into the lore, mechanics, and history of the Final Fantasy series are both entertaining and educational. This podcast is a must-listen for anyone who has ever been captivated by the magic of Final Fantasy. It's like a nostalgic journey through the worlds we love, and it deserves every one of these five stars!

    Great show with great hosts
This show has authenticity and relatability. Joe’s effort to create unique content and great accent impressions, and Kaleb’s quick wittedness and horrible accent impressions, and other Kaleb’s giddy rare appearances have blended together to create a balanced atmosphere that is inviting and easy to listen to. Other shows bring very little in terms of hard work and perspective and are hard to keep focused on. I only regret finding out about it 8yrs after it launched. I recommend this FF podcast above all others, unless you’re a chibi baby in which case the other podcasts are hosted by chibi babies for you listen to.

    Love this!!
I love listening when I feel like I want to talk about Final Fantasy and have no one to talk about it with. I have learned little tidbits here and there, and I can just relax and think about my favorite games!!

    They’ve lost the love
These guys don’t love final fantasy anymore, you can hear it in their voices. With the way that square Enix has gone, it isn’t that surprising.

    Not Bad at All
Entertaining FF podcast that is NOT safe for work or for children. Minus four stars for being pillow-biters that play tickle the pickle. Plus one star for the best worst Shadowbringers review I’ve ever heard, plus two stars for being pretty hysterical, plus one final star for artwork featuring a pork chop Rinoa that obviously used her Sorceress powers to eat the rest of the FFVIII team. Did that man just call himself “Jessica”? This world has become so confusing!

    These guys rock
All episodes are good, especially the older ones near their beginnings. Straight through all of the FF’s with opinions and commentary + some side episodes with game related content + humor. These are real gamers and fans you’ll be listening to - not journalists like other crappy shows you can easily find. To those giving reviews based off of how they were offended... Turn off your phone and hide your head in the sand - I’m guessing you’re one of the people that have the softest of skins. If you like to laugh and you like FF in the slightest, listen to the show.

Took a chance, glad I did
I’m in my mid 30s and was looking for something new to listen to on the work commute. Did a search for Final Fantasy 6 and stumbled across this podcast. The FFVI podcast from 2014 was great. Now listening to their FF7 remake review. Looks like there is plenty of content to keep me entertained. Wish I discovered earlier.

    Too casual not intelligent
The negative reviews here are based off of sexist or racist comments etc etc etc we get it... go dig a hole and hide from any discomfort and adversity .. can’t breathe in 2020... but these guys try too hard to be the funny friend in the room and spend too much time giggling because they think they said something funny .. you obviously have a passion for FF. That’s what brought me here. Maybe try to be a little more prepared, insightful and give us thought provoking conversation.

    Haters are sweating bullets
I wonder what it’s like to have my dirty soiled underwear shoved so far up my rear that I’m offended by ones opinions about a topic that I downloaded hoping to have my own opinions justified.. Well here’s the thing these guys do just that! I bow to their opinions and rating orders on all things FF because there is nothing else to do in life but agree to our gods known as Ultima Final Fantasy. From playing through all the main series and spinoffs these guys give their own personal opinions while maintaining a light hearted entertaining podcast including information and the occasional song to boot.. my only gripe is that my hands are now covered in chocolate so I can’t download the next episode without messing up my phone

    A Fulfilling Journey
I started listening to Ultima Final Fantasy back in 2014 after they released maybe about 10 episodes on there podcast. This podcast is a lot of fun, and an enjoyable reminiscence if you have played any of the games in the FF Series. Strongly recommend. It stands as the Number 1 FF Podcast! No one else will/would be brave enough to spend 5 1/2 years playing through all the games and their predecessors and simultaneously forming a podcast around the journey. Might I say, a fulfilling journey it is and has been. Thank you to the Hosts for giving me years of entertainment, while I was riding my bike to work, setting up truck (store parts) in the early 5am shift, doing household chores, and of course enjoying the grind on games. The story does not end here at the bitter end of the weekly shows, for as long as SQUARE ENIX stands, there will be more Final Fantasy to come. Let us raise our glasses in unity and drink to Kaleb and Joe for their love and dedication to their community and FF Series! Huzzah!

    The Name Says It All
This is the absolute ultimate...............Final Fantasy podcast. I started a new job in 2017 and found that podcasts would be something good to get into in order to make the work go by more smoothly. I had never really listened to a podcast before so I decided that an FF podcast would be a great place to start and Ultima is exactly what I was looking for. Want in-depth FF game reviews? This is the podcast for you. Looking for some interesting facts about FF and the people that made it? This is the podcast for you. Want to laugh hard while listening to some hardcore ranting about some FF stuff? This is the podcast for you. Not only is this podcast great, but you NEED to listen to EVERY episode. Don't just listen to the game reviews, listen to everything in between. There is gold in every episode and I can't praise it enough. They will be stopping the weekly format soon, but don't be sad about it. Just go back through and start over. It's absolutely worth it. Jump in and Enjoy. The. Grind. Also the audio gets better, so don't be a loser that quits after episode 1.

    Best podcast for FF!
I started listening to these guys a month or so ago after recently getting back into FF games as an adult and this is now one of my favorite go to podcasts. They cover ground on even some of the less popular and older games out there, which is nice because the other FF based podcasts I’ve briefly listened to only touch on the recent games. Their banter is hilarious and at times irreverent which is refreshing to me- granted everyone has their own taste in banter but as a night shift ICU nurse listening on the way home from work I enjoy it very much! They don’t always agree, which I think adds to the authenticity and rawness of the conversation- it’s not just an echo chamber praising every little thing about the series like similar podcasts I’ve come across. They’re also interactive with their listeners which is awesome. All in all, the episodes are casual while being well put together. There’s definitely a lot of time that goes into what they do. I’ve cried from laughing while listening to them probably twice. If you’re a fan of this series you should definitely give it a listen!
  • Omarinrin
    Great until it wasn’t
I was enjoying their reviews of the games for the last couple of days until it became too uncomfortable to listen. Some of their opinions are too tone deaf to let them pass. The content is not worth some of their cringe-worthy comments.
  • BobErt1313
Great Final Fantasy resource and enjoyable discussions
I found this podcast 5 years ago and still look forward to each new episode. I grew up playing Final Fantasy and wish I had more time to keep up with the games. Through this podcast I get everything I am missing with great reviews of games I love and many I never experienced. Good topical episodes fill in between game reviews and it is also nice to have guest hosts and listeners on to discuss the series. Hosts take the time and effort to get through all of the good and bad games of the series and never forget to entertain us.

    Farewell Review
Been listening for a couple years now, really like this show. Found it by happenstance as I was doing a replay of every ff and have been hooked ever since. There is something fun about reliving a series of nostalgia with others that really makes this special. From the reviews, to the Carolla inspired drops and clips, to super sexy swinging fan fic, this pod is truly fun to listen to. Will be sad to see this die down but life happens! Thanks for the years of content and good luck with the movies. Ps: Caleb Craig is a hater with the most insane unfounded biases in video games of anyone I’ve ever “known.” Seriously stop jacking off to FFT, it’s a great game and all, but Fire Emblem is eons better and over half of the mainline FF are better than it.
  • Discocub
    Offensive and Rude
I know that a review won’t change their minds, but these guys have a LOT of growing up to do when it comes to not using offensive language. I don’t care about using “curse words,” but derogatory language about people different from yourself is unacceptable. Vaguely racist, transphobic, and homophobic language has no place in 2019.
  • JMonty8889
    While I’m a fan
While I love listening to your reviews of the final fantasy games, Although I prefer 8 as my favorite. I can’t say I’m a fan of Kaleb Craig. He’s annoying. But the hosts of the show keep me entertained which is good.

    Incredible
How have I been missing out on this podcast until recently?? These guys are an absolute blast to listen to and make my work days fly by. At first I started with the review episodes but I am now cranking out each and every episode and cannot get enough of em. You guys have inspired me to complete every game in the series and I can’t thank you enough.

    Good Final Fantasy Podcast!
Great podcast, I have really enjoyed listening to these guys talk about Final Fantasy. I have played these games most of my life; now that I am older - married with kids - I don’t have time to play as much as I use to. Listening to this podcast driving to work and sometimes at work depending on the day, has been a real joy and helps fills that Final Fantasy void in my heart. The conversations they have reminds me of the ones my friends and I had when we played more back in the day. I am starting to play through the games again (a few games like ff 1,2,3,4,12 would be first times) and I listen to the review episodes after beating the games. In between games I listen to other episodes, which is good there are so many as beating games takes a lot longer than it use to. Overall, if you are a final fantasy fan I would recommend listening to these guys. Just as good (and better IMO) as union. Bummer I got into the game so late as I understand the podcast will be ending in the coming months. Note: probably not child appropriate. In fact, having a dark sense of humor will help at times. Good for me, maybe not everyone.

Final fantasy is a fun game
Thank you guys for making a final fantasy podcast. It’s nice to listen to, but y’all laugh and talk over each other too much. At least you did in the older episodes, which is what I’ve been listening to.

    Better than a hiPotion
This podcast helps me pretend that I have friends. I enjoy listening to them as I fall asleep but the theme music is a little jarring. Perfect for any occasion, really. Washing my hair takes forever and these two make it bearable to be in the shower that long, I'm laughing and distracted from the burden of hygiene. I never thought I'd ever meet anyone who's played more final fantasy games than I have, but they certainly have and I've learned a thing or two from them. Unexpected. Kaleb, you're a hottie. 😘

    Great podcast
These two men are on a quest, To play the series they love best, From one through fifteen, spinoffs too, They play them all and then review. They’ve conquered clowns and flying whales, They’ve killed Yiazmat and told their tales, Ex-Death and Zeromus lay slain, And sorceresses have met their bane. There’s more to come and more to do, They will play Chrono Trigger, it’s true, But ‘til then they will slog through more games, That bear the Final Fantasy name. The humor in this show is grand, It is the funniest pod in all the land, We hope the series goes far longer, And their resolve shall but grow stronger. To listeners who are not sure, I would advise to give it a whirl, You’ll probably laugh, I think you’ll find, And always, please, enjoy the grind.

    Not worth the effort
I listened to the first year’s worth of podcasts and had to drop it. Listening to them use rude language and offensive jokes is not worth the content they deliver. Also their interludes between segments are extremely annoying and the sound level is poorly balanced to the audio level of the podcast.

Best gaming podcast about all things Final Fantasy
I stumbled upon this show searching for gaming podcasts and Final Fantasy is my favorite RPG series. I've been listening for over two years now and it's been great. It's takes awhile to like the show, but it's been great. Their best shows is when they do the reviews on the games, and once I heard an episode about their gaming review of Final Fantasy XIII-2, I've been hooked since. The only episodes I don't like is when they get the mobile crew in for the mobile games and they have different hosts. If you want the best Final Fantasy Podcast, then this is the show for you. I've tried to listen to a few other podcasts on Final Fantasy and they are boring. This is clearly the best podcast.

Had to leave a review to get that rating up been listening for quite sometime I love that the show rarely ever boring and that you play the terrible (crystal chronicle) games so we don’t have to keep up the great work guys

    Reactivated my itunes for this
I have been listening to this podcast since the beginning and it has been wonderful and informative, and i have enjoyed every episode. So much so that i finally decided to log back into itunes since the format i listen to doesnt have a way to rate the show. The hosts are both knowledgeable and fun to listen to even when they wander off subject which can lead to great banter. Final fantasy is my favorite series and when i discovered podcasts years ago and decided to look for a final fantasy podcast im glad this one came up first, i recommend everyone check this show out and not just episodes about the games but the ones inbetween as well. Keep up the good work and i look forward to the eventual chrono trigger episode!!!

Fun show...Almost all of the time
Did you guys know Joe and Kaleb don’t like pop music?! I had no idea! They never talk about it!! In all seriousness, this is a great show for FF fans. Have to admire their dedication and effort to the project. The show has fun banter, well researched discussions, and highly articulate opinions on gameplay. If you can ignore some eye-rolling edgelord opinions sometimes, this show is fantastic. It’s rare when a podcast feels like hanging out with old friends each week and this show is exactly that. Much love and respect.

    Great!
Just got into podcasts. UFF is the second podcast I subscribed to. I tried another podcast square roots and I did not enjoy them one bit. I didn’t connect with any of the hosts there. UFF I enjoy and connect with the hosts. I enjoy their POV and like that they do not talk too much trash about the games i love. I also like that they have some knowledge about FF to actually have an intriguing conversation.

    The best FF podcast
This podcast is a must listen for all final fantasy fans. I've been a regular listener for several years and this show never fails to provide a great mix of entertainment and humor. I always enjoy listening to both kaleb and joes takes on various topics even though I don't agree with there opinions all the time. The extreme dedication and professionalism that both hosts exemplify is something I consistently respect. If you enjoy this podcast definitely give their second podcast, "nudeclan", a listen for discussions on a much wider array of video game topics. Thank you joe and kaleb for the years of quality podcasting!

    For the First Timer
First, I have never been a big fan of FF because of the turn based game play, however, I have always been told that the stories have been great. After hearing that FFXV was my kind of style I emerged myself into the game and was was spit back out being left with that void inside that gamers have after beating an intense game. Y’alls 2 part breakdown of FFXV was exactly the closure I needed to put to rest the empty feeling. Y’all a thoughts, praises and concerns were exactly what I was feeling and I felt I was part of the conversation that I needed to have with someone who understood. Thank you so much for doing what y’all do.

    Great podcasts, great hosts!
I'm not a gamer by any stretch of the imagination, and even when it comes to the FF series I consider myself a 'distant' fan. Basically, I've played most games in the series but I've only finished a few. Still, I love listening to UFF - it's one of my favorite podcasts. Not only are Joe and Kaleb really fun to listen to, but they also provide the best commentaries/reviews of the games out of all other FF podcasts that I'm aware of. And their non-review episodes are also fantastic, particularly the History of Square Enix series. It is indeed the ULTIMATE Final Fantasy podcast. My only 'criticism' of the show is that at times I felt the examination of the story (i.e. plot, characters, setting, theme, philosophy, etc.) was lacking; or insufficient. The FF games rely heavily on narrative, so a deeper dive into those narrative elements would have benefited the discussion. And I believe it's a task you guys would have been able to handle since you both seem well-read, familiar with Cinema, and Joe has formally studied film in college (I think). Either way, love the show and hope it goes on forever.

If you love FF- these guys have you covered.
So I found this podcast a few weeks back and I just can’t praise it enough. I don’t really have times to play a lot of games these days with my job and planning a wedding BUT Final Fantasy is my all time favorite series so before I get married I decided to set out and finish my FF completion list and replay old favorites from the past. So as I embarked on this mission , I wanted to find like minded guys that love the series like I do. This podcast was , thankfully, the very first one I came across and after a few episodes I knew I need look no further. Caleb and Joe totally get the series and well- pretty much run the show just as I would!! ( except they do a way better job than I would !). They love the series and it just oozes from them! They’re very knowledgeable about all things FF and I really appreciate their admiration for the series! The only caveat I would attach for those interested in the show is the coarse language at times but they do warn you of that. It’s not my thing personally but I don’t ever find it too grating. So guys we fellow FF fans really appreciate the hard work and commitment! Keep it up guys! Lots of love! Larson from Florida- out.

The ultiMATE... Metallica and Megadeth fan podcast.
While I've only finished a few of the Final Fantasy games, I like the series enough that I decided to check this one out when I was looking for new video game podcasts. I'm glad to say that these guys have become one of my new favorites. Joe and Schweiss have great chemistry and their exploration of the entire Final Fantasy series makes for a really compelling listen. Their various tangents and off-topic detours are often the mortar that holds the podcast together; so much so that when I found out they do a general gaming show called Nude Clan, I immediately subscribed to that as well to get more of their dialogue. They also aren't afraid to be funny in the face of an increasingly sensitive atmosphere; they tell the jokes they want to tell and say the things they want to say, and I think this show is all the better for it. Because of this, the hosts are some of the most down-to-earth and real people I've heard doing a video game podcast, and I think that should be applauded in an age where most other podcasts are too busy walking on eggshells to actually be funny. I will continue to enjoy the grind. Now, please read this review again in the most cartoonishly stereotypical asian accent you can muster.

    Hilarious and nostalgic
I started listening to this podcast about a month or two ago, and have come to love it. I know that I’m a little late to the party, but that’s okay. There is plenty of hilarious content for me to catch up on, even though I’m 1/3 through the content already and have already been through all the review episodes. Kaleb and Joe are hilarious in their antics and reviews and aren’t afraid to speak their minds on games that while we all love them, can definitely have its flaws. There are a few times I had to stop listening for a few minutes or hours, although mostly it was because I was at work performing mental tasks, and I was laughing so hard I had to stop in order to keep it together. The episode that they had black mage Justin on, they were talking about final fantasy x-2 and they made the comment about the voice acting for brother being so outlandish because of how the game was set up, that they made comments about him being on drugs and saying that they need to do this all on this take because he’s about to come down. Then they had to play the party line and the yell from brother. When I heard that I almost spit out my drink and my face turned so red from keeping in the laughter. I wouldn’t have been able to explain it to my supervisor as to why that would have been an outburst. Overall the show is hilarious. And while they might be incorrect occasionally on some of the finer things in the games or some of the combat aspects, no one should expect them to know everything. I do enjoy their ability and willingness to research on topics like the history of Square Enix and various artists of square. Those episodes give me insight into the games that I haven’t had before. There is good variety in their content, and I even enjoy the parody music. The only downside is that when they talk about the games, it makes me want to play those games. So I’m kind of gettting final fantasy ADD. except for ffxiii. That game can go die in a fire. I’m sad that I came in so late to the party, but I’m glad that I have a lot of content to catch up on. Maybe sometime I’ll send them a message or tweet. It’d be fun to chat about ff and other games. My rankings are (from bottom to top): Ff 1 Ff 2 Ff 13 Ff 4 Ff 15 Ff 5 Ff 6 Ff tactics adv Ff 8 Ff 7 Ff 12 Ff 10 Ff 9 Ff tactics I haven’t played 3, 11, or 14. Enjoy the grind guys, and thank you for what you do.

    Final Fantasy
I found this show as I was looking for shows reviewing Final Fantasy Tactics. I listened with enthusiasm for little insights into the game. Coming from hosts who love the Final Fantasy series, enough so to start a podcast. With many episodes under their belt, I hoped for kindred spirits that would shower the game with praise and adoration that it rightfully deserves. What I got in actuality was a shot of reality as to what the game is. A grind heavy, hard, dated graphically game with a confusing story. I don’t believe any of these reviews but I see where they came from. I appreciate the other side of what is my favorite game of all time. After that episode, I proceeded to subscribe and listen to what is clever banter, witty hosts and fun reviews of the great Final Fantasy game library. Thanks for the many hours I’ve already listened to and the many more. Keep up the good work.

    Must Listen
Each episode is like a blooper reel. Kaleb is hilarious and I enjoy his dark humor. Joe tries to keep the show on track and Kaleb in check but it's a losing cause, so Joe, just give up. The final fantasy core episodes are very enjoyable. Might not agree with all their criticisms and views but I can see where they're coming from. Must listen for all FF fans who want a relaxed, casual Final Fantasy podcasts.

    Not worth your time
These two swear too much, use insulting and semi-racist language; in just one and a half episodes, I heard a derogatory reference to an Arab person, an insulting "Japanese accent," and the "r" word. Stay away from these guys until they grow up and stop being ignoramuses.

    Memory Lane
I’m an OG Final Fantasy player going back to number 1 and listening to you guys is like a fun trip down memory lane. It’s interesting to hear a younger generation’s view on the old games and I’m glad you approach them with open eyes. Top 5 FF’s for me: 6 7 Tactics 12 4. You’ve got a great show.

This is my favorite piece of media. I don’t watch tv anymore I just injest content one gulp. I sleep to this here. If UFF had to be a song that would become the new National anthem it would be (The Intl players anthem.) naw maybe like the dipset anthem. I have been working on putting together a JRPG podcast because of you guys. Stay great. And j can’t wait to hear your attempt at articulating this mess. 10 Toe’s down!!

    Great FF Podcast
Extreme, amazing, intense, humorous, tremendous FF podcast. Both hosts are funny and feed off each other very well. I just finished going through all the episodes took me almost 6 months but it was well worth it. The hosts have reignited the FF passion i had when I was a kid. I have bought a bunch of Final Fantasy games after listening to your podcast. And beat some of them, I don't have the time to spend on them that I once did. The review episodes are great and in depth on gameplay, characters, and what needs a little tweaking or in the case of world of ruin a ton of tweaking. I think my favorite episodes other then the reveiws are when they have Patreon listeners on. It's great to hear more perspectives then just the 2 hosts (And that other fat guy). I look forward to more reviews and episodes in the future. And I'm on my way to starting Nudeclan. Thanks for making my life, at work, a little less boring.

    Masterpiece of modern podcasting
As I listen to the voices of kaleb and joe my body constantly quivers for more. Their angelic tones breath life into my very soul. Their opinions on final fantasy are not without fault but their rhythmic vigor remains to be matched. Occasionally they are graced upon the presence of the curious and quaint Kaleb Craig who brings the straw to joe and kalebs banana vanilla milkshake. Please I urge you two to keep on podcasting and bringing your genius into the ether. My hands tremble before I press play on every episode as I know I am about to happen upon greatness. Thank you for your utter genuine genius.
