    Brilliant Interview
With my inherent sense of dread at a peak these last years, I’ve been avoiding Kafka, but hearing this makes a plunge irresistible. All hail to translators who open the world up and to their advocates who bring them to our attention.

    Great interviews with authors.
There are so many interesting books that never make it to the top of The New York Times bestseller list. This podcast consists of interviews with established authors who may not be household names but who have written some very interesting books and lead very interesting lives. Gil Roth does a great job interviewing them. I guarantee you’ll not only enjoy the interviews but get some great ideas for your next read.

    Good conversation
Gil Roth brings his breadth of knowledge to comics, graphic novels, artists, authors and consistently hosts in-depth and insightful conversations rich in texture, nuance and humor. He’s the kind of guy you would like to share a story and a beer. Enjoy!

Great interviews from a great interviewer
After having listened to several years worth of episodes of this podcast, what I find most amazing is Gil’s ability to draw fascinating conversation out of people whom often I would not have independently sought out. It’s easy to make me care about people I already knew and loved about prior to an episode. But Gil has me downloading week after week, because I know that even when the guest is a stranger to me, even someone in a profession I ordinarily would care little about, he will by the nature of his questioning make them interesting. This is unique, With many other podcasts, I only tune in when I know the guest, because the interviewer doesn’t do his/her work. Not so with Gil, who always delivers,

    Thought-provoking conversations
I have listened to The Virtual Memories Show for several years and have enjoyed the many conversations between Gil Roth and his wide variety of guests. Although I tend to favor his discussions with literary critics (Harold Bloom, Clive James, Michael Dirda, and Edward Mendelson), essayists (Philip Lopate and Willard Spiegelman) and translators (Anthea Bell and Burton Pike), I have found each of the podcasts to be engaging and an excellent way to learn about recently-published books from new authors. The Virtual Memories Show is a must for those that enjoy good books and thought-provoking conversations.

    A Truly Literate Conversation
Full disclosure: I’ve been a guest on the Virtual Memories Show, but I was an enthusiastic listener long before that. Gil has just the right balance in his conversations: he does not try to lead his guests or impose his own views, but he is an active participant who is willing to take the discussion in an interesting direction or follow a digression to see where it leads. He prepares for his well and researches his guests and is able to bring in new ideas and topics based on their work and history. Finally, Gil’s own broad reading and education, and his love of arts and letters, make the Virtual Memories Show more than just a showcase of the guest’s views, but the kind of conversation that I find it a joy to listen to (and to participate in).

    Very Good Stuff
Brilliant, especcially the comics episodes. Intelligent and culturally relevant conversations. I love this podcast.

    good stuff
Love the interviews with cartoonists. most recently bill griffith/ derf/ peter kuper. Gil is a knowledgeable nerd in this area and has a real skill for making his subjects feel at ease. I’m not as fond of the more literary stuff, but that’s just me. I aint that literary. that’s not where my interests lie

    Thought provoking and entertaining
I always enjoy listening to Virtual Memories. I appreciate how Gil Roth lets the people that he interviews go on and speak their minds. Roth asks thoughtful questions and then lets his interesting guests open up and talk. Virtual Memories is the only talk show that I listen to. Thanks Gil.

    Really thoughtful conversations
A great example of a really thoughtful, well-read guy introducing you to people you’d never have met otherwise.

    A bibliophile's dream podcast
An excellent little podcast that discusses books, literary culture, and much more with the creators and curators of the written word. I was invited to listen in on the podcast by Roth and jumped in on the Stefan Zweig episode - I have been hooked ever since. A well made show with a surprising list of literary celebrities and experts, this program is certainly on my list of podcasts that I look forward to every week. An excellent show for book and interview lovers, but is certainly approachable by all.

    Can't Stop Listening
Can't stop listening to this show since it was recommended to me a couple weeks ago. Whether the guest is someone I know or not, Gil Roth brings wit and charm to every conversation. One of the very best literary/arts podcasts out there.

Great Shows, Fascinating Guests, Engaging Host
Discovered this accidentally. More people should know about it. Gil is intelligent, affable, self-deprecating, and a good interviewer. If you’re interested in good books (or Great Books), this podcast is for you.

    Great content!
Gil excels at creating exceptional content in a format that can often be unforgiving. He has the perfect voice for this work and the subjects he chooses are always interesting. The podcasts vary from humorous to thought-provoking, and everything in between. Give it a listen - you won’t be sorry!

Great show more people should listen to!
I'm a friend of Gil's, and have also been a guest. My desire for Gil to do well aside, this show is really worth your time. The guests are interesting and Gil asks great questions, making for a good time, whatever the topic.

    LOVE IT
I went to grad school with Gil; let me get that caveat of bias out of the way from the get-go. & I love enjoying these opportunities, to sit back and relax while Gil and his guest chat about matters literary and news-worthy, often both; without being high-faluting.
