I’m from New England (USA) and have been enjoying Mark Steel’s in town for years. In the UK, I’ve never been outside of London and eighty percent of the places Mark visits I’ve not even heard of. I follow along with a map and photo searches while laughing along learning about each new, yet relatable place. I love the way Mark sends-up any and every thing while humanizing us all. Strangely, Mark makes even me feel connected to and appreciative of previously unknown communities and though I may not be able to visit these places myself, I feel I know them as if I had. What an enjoyable service Mark provides in this age of encroaching global corporate monoculture. I wish Mark, or someone, could do the same for America! Or, are American “communities” too divided, too sensitive, too lacking in introspection for his kind of humanizing humor. If anyone could find the humanity of a place, any place, even an American place, it’s Mark Steel! Thank you Mark and glad you are back!

We listened to many In Towns back to back while traveling to and from the hospital for my wife’s radiation treatment. Every day for 6 weeks during summer 2023. It strikes just the right balance of warmth and humour, perfect for a cancer patient and their chauffeur spouse. A slightly odd review, possibly, but in light of Mark’s recent cancer diagnosis, it seemed apt. Thanks for supporting us through difficult times!

I adore how Mark so kindly and lovingly skewers all these towns. I would listen to him read out the dictionary. I bet it would be hilarious!
