superpotladyDelightful! This has quickly become a favorite podcast of mine! The hosts are delightfully funny and have great friend chemistry. Feels like we are just buds hanging out chatting about movies of the past. I’ve added a few more movies to my must watch list!
-
SNew94PerfectionWhat I love about this podcast is that the presenter has time to actually explain and present — they aren’t constantly being interrupted by the other host! It makes for such easy listening and for an overall more enjoyable experience. Plus, I always learn something new! Keep it up!

JesthedeluxeTGIWWWLiterally my favorite podcast. So thrilled to be invited into the nitty gritty of the cinema world by two people who know how to have fun. Cheers to one of the brightest spots of my week, you’re always what went right.

MaryAnn3427The hostsI’m not sure who is more insufferable, the guy or the girl hosting this podcast. Lizzy is especially condescending and self important. If you enjoy listening to a woman who thinks she knows everything and cannot even let the guy have an opinion, this podcast is for you. If you enjoy listening to one woman claiming to know everything based on her feelings, this podcast is for you.

JeffWalling22Hulk episode - Additional infoI couldn’t figure out how else to email your show, but i lived in San Francisco when they were filming the hulk and most of the hulk shots were done with the crowds reacting to a long pole with the hulks head on the top of it (so the extras would know approximately where the hulks head was). The pole was being held about 15-20 feet high (which was a ridiculously high level considering the hulk is usually 8-10 feet max in the comic). That was part of Ang’s plot though, the more banner becomes the hulk, the taller he gets so by the end the hulk was supposed to be around 30-40 feet high. Also, I heard that Ang Lee gathered the cast and crew before the first shot and had them all growl like raging gorillas to get in the mood for the film they were about to make!

RonMPLSRidiculously sincereAs sincere a love letter to movies - good and bad - as you’re going to find anywhere. No snark and incredibly well researched.

Kaeto123Nothing Wrong Here! This is such a great podcast! Filled with interesting behind-the-scenes tidbits and other info we didn’t know we needed. The two presenters are easy to listen to and very entertaining. Well done!

kindle switcherEntertaining but flawedOne Example: Snow White was not even close to being the first full length animated feature. Lotte Reiniger’s The Adventures of Prince Achmed (1926) is the oldest surviving animated feature film, surviving being the operative word. Some preceded Achmed and others came between Achmed and Snow White. Most of these films are among the lost (75% of silent-era films and 50% of 1927-1950 releases, according to the Library of Congress). This information is one search away.

Baroo55Highly entertaining and informingFound this podcast recently, and have been enjoying it. Host are well-spoken, engaging and witty. They do their homework for each film and present everything in a way that is informative and engaging. Not only do I learn more about these movies, but I learn a tremendous amount about how movies are made.

Neesa11Love it funny interesting and finally not true crimeIm tired of listening to true crime but haven’t been able to find anything that was interesting and funny to keep my interest. Really loving this podcast, found through The Big Flop
-
kirinqueenGood research and good humorI love listening to podcasts by people who clearly know what they’re talking about but don’t take themselves TOO seriously. Lizzie and Chris do their research, cover a whole range of movies from different eras and genres, and bring in a variety of guests with their own niches of expertise. I love it! I also love how they vary up their Patreon supporter reads at the end of every episode. If you like Blank Check and The Flop House, this will fit right in.
-
NOPEC!My favorite podcast!!I love all the fascinating stories behind these movies. They are all well researched and told.
-
AcylLove it!I found this podcast after listening to You Must Remember This several times over and needed something new! The hosts of this one, Lizzie and Chris, get right to business and the episodes are well researched and interesting! So glad I gave this one a try!
-
YUsucksobadYou went wrong?I’m listening to your Malcolm X episode. Here’s a thought, instead of your pathetic pandering to the simple-minded (cliched) take on who has the “right” to tell a story, maybe encourage people who would like another story told to invest their time, energy, capital, etc., in telling the story THEY want to tell! Glory was a “white savior” story? It should have been more about the Andre Braugher character!? Cool, you pathetic frauds….then go tell the story YOU want to have told. The reality is, you’re both pandering cowards regurgitating a narrative consistent with the characters you play in your public-facing pseudo-career to meet whatever social status you covet. Anything relevant you two cowards might have presented is immediately discredited by that embarrassing white-guilt pander-fest.

YettiBellyMakes me love film againLove this podcast! I have worked in the entertainment biz for 18 years and yet, I learn new and interesting information on each episode! Well researched and delivered. The storytelling is wonderful and I love the passion with which, Chris and Lizzie talk about the films. Favorite podcast. Full stop.

KeefonanleyNew Comfort PodcastA favorite stand-up/writer of mine (Demi Adejuyigbe) recently referenced this podcast in his Malcolm X review on Letterboxd. Demi is a former host of music/comedy/informational deepdive pod Punch Up the Jam, some of my favorite content. I figured his taste is worth trusting. Lizzie, Chris and David are clearly so passionate about this project and bring a cozy millennial energy to analyzing the stories of making your favorite stories. Every episode gives you innumerable factoids that make you laugh, make you think, make you curious. The Galaxy Quest episode made me cry! I look forward to every new upload & I’m frequently tapping the archive for joy. Really good stuff!

robthemany2Good information unlikable duo. There are a ton of movie podcast most are terrible. This one offers a substantial change in format neither roasting terrible movies nor drooling on fan favorites. Two types that make up much of the podcast in the genre. Instead this podcast is more about the trials a film go through prior to be seen. And as far as that it’s super informative and basically is a catch all so you don’t have to buy a bunch of books on movies. When the show leans into this it’s a solid show. Unfortunately the great qualities can become hard to hear when you really listen to more than a few shows. Chris in particular is one of most condescending people I’ve ever heard speak. I feel bad because obviously he has some traumatic experience with religion where his British personality tends to shine more often. Though it pops up more than just about that topic. The lady seems nice and is much more likable than Chris. My only concern is for a person who “loves” film she seems hate not dislike but hate alit of the films. Could this affect her going forward? Idk but I hope not. Listen if you can look past a douchenozzle because you love film then give this a listen. But there are infinitely more likable host and equivalent podcasts out there.

Brigs hFavorite podcast everI’ve never written a podcast review and this is probably the only time I’ll do it. I wish there was a new episode every day. The show is funny, interesting, and informative…a lot of podcast hosts really get on my nerves but Chris and Lizzie are amazing. 🤣
-
HukikukijukiRhythm and hostI really like the three episodes I’ve heard and the insight. But, I don’t understand the “host” as she sounds like someone randomly walking into the sound booth when it’s the few times she speaks. Plus the main speakers rhythm is that of reading a transcript.
-
FaweeweeSo goodWell researched plus the hosts just love movies. Such good listening. Every episode is so good even you do t know the movie.
-
chelsea ratA great break from the politicsJust discovered this pod recently and love it! Perfect hosts with great chemistry!

Adbell74Movie fans pay attentionThank you for this show! I am a recent discoverer of WWW and I can’t get enough. It’s the only show I am listening to right now. I am catching up, starting from the very beginning and working my way forward. The hosts are hysterical and bring industry knowledge to well researched, humorous, enlightening episodes about movies both great and not-so-great. Their episode on Dr Doolittle had me in stitches. As a fan of movies I have seen almost all of the ones they talk about and I go back and watch the ones I haven’t see. Between this, Unspooled, and You Must Remember this, I am in Cinema Paradise. Thank you again for What Went Wrong where each episode goes so Right.

ryanjzjdhdAMAZEBALLSMy tattoo artist introduced me to the podcast while getting a 7 1/2 hour session. So entertaining, thoughtful, and well researched. Although I had to be careful not to laugh as to not move my arm!! 11/10

Egotist vaperInaccurate, emotional nonsense. If you need guardrails and safe spaces to dictate your ideas on art - this show is for you. After hearing the disparaging remarks about the film Tombstone (based mostly on its lack of female screen time), it’s become obvious that your opinions and commentary can’t be trusted. Not to mention, your “facts” are questionable. Art isn’t quota based. It doesn’t require you to predetermine your desires and judge the work based on those preconceptions. Especially YOUR preconceptions … which are neither A) Yours or B) Real. It’s all performative. Imagine the incredibly indoctrinated nature of your grading system when applied to other famous works: The Mona Lisa is insignificant because it doesn’t represent minorities. Sgt Pepper is a bad album because it doesn’t have enough women penned songs. Poe is okay, but he doesn’t incorporate the LGBT community enough. The exercise looks absurd, right? We get it, you’re leftists. Sadly, this tells us everything we need to know about you - so why beat us over the head with it? Does art REALLY require your supposed “modern prism?” Can you not judge it from your individual, guttural, personal perspective? Must it all boil down to quotas and “problematic” box checking? There’s something so good hiding in this show … but it’s too afraid of what the public might say without descending into homogenized lectures and prepubescent finger wagging. Ultimately, this isn’t critique. This is outcome shopping.

Dp405The ultimate comfort podcastIn these troubled times, WHAT WENT WRONG is the ultimate comfort podcast. Funny, warm and informative.

Matt DundasBest movie podcast out thereI listen to lots of movie podcasts, and this one is my all-time favorite because the hosts are very pleasant, have a great rapport that makes me feel happy just to be with them, and their angle is extremely interesting and entertaining. Rather than just going through the movies scene by scene and/or saying what they did and didn’t like, they go through the story of how the films get made, the backstory of who made it and how they all happened, and the stories behind the scenes. They have a strong reverence for the art of filmmaking and are always respectful of the extreme difficulty of making a movie. This is the only podcast about movies I’ll listen to regardless of the movie they’re talking about. The only thing I would change is that I wish they somehow had an episode for every movie ever made. Maybe over time my wish will come true? I LOVE “What Went Wrong” and so will you!

Whitewalker05Love this showThis is my absolute favorite podcast! I’ve been a movie fan for as long as I can remember. And I’m kinda old! At first I was hoping there would be more ‘old’ films, ones I I had seen, so I cherry-picked the episodes. But I realized I was being a true old fuddy duddy, and started listening to all the episodes. I’ve learned so much AND am watching ALL the movies I hadn’t seen. Chris and Lizzie are a hoot and their research is impeccable. You’re keeping me young! And thanks for Snow White this week—
-
maddy gravesnew favorite film podcast!love love love the Snow White primer + deep dive episodes! so informative and engaging :)
-
Spaceseeker19Delightful, informative, funny!Lizzie and Chris bring charm and humor to a thoughtful discussion of movie making! While they review the crazy things that went wrong on some films, they always balance it with things that went right. I appreciate the research that goes into each podcast. And frankly, Lizzie and Chris have great voices. They are easy to listen to!
-
Campus BellusWhat Went Wrong is so right!A great diversion, filled with film arcanum that I don’t really need to know but I’m glad I do. Excellent hosts but I kind of miss the burps. Please do some industrial strength David Lynch (Mulholland Drive, Lost Highway, Inland Empire, or if you’re really crazy, Eraserhead). Keep up the good work!
-
JonOwnbeySo interesting!I really love hearing all of the interesting goings-on of different movies and their production. I did not expect to enjoy this as much as I have been. Keep up the great work and also please do some Mel Gibson flick. Edge of Darkness, The Patriot, Braveheart. The stories from production working with Gibson must be wild.
-
TM6347GreatJust started listening to the Podcast today & have already listened to 6 episodes, well info with tons of behind the scenes info

MayaJustMayaNiceThis is my favorite podcast! I'm glad I found this podcast while I was scrolling through the apple podcast search function. Chris and Lizzie do a fantastic job at striking a balance between humor and information. I don't agree with everything they say but I love hearing their discussions.

TeachaCariGetting me through the fall of democracyI don’t know how I missed this podcast till now but it is SAVING my sanity these days. I’m learning so much, re-enjoying films and escaping into a profession that is SO interesting! Thanks Chris and Lizzie - you have a new devoted fan!
-
K. HurleyI Love “What Went Wrong”This is one of the most entertaining and informative podcasts out there. If you love the movies, then chances are you’ll love this podcast too. The hosts, Lizzie Bassett and Chris Winterbauer, have a real fun chemistry between them. Check it out.
-
AustinnnnnnnnnnnnnnAwesomeI love it. Try it. You’ll see.
-
ImcraryLove this podcast! One of the podcasts my kids (12, 15)will listen to with me. It’s sparked a lot of interesting questions and a running list of movies we want to watch together. Great for road trips!
-
Pumpernickle PickleOne of My Favorites! So wonderful. Each episode makes me think, laugh, and nod my head and go "OH YeAH!" I'm so excited to listen in.
-
SJCDanvilleBest way to spend an hour and learn something to bootI’ve listened to almost every single episode and I’m always amazed at the level of information they cover -plus the format of explaining what the movie IMDB description reads and then go soup to nuts on any given movies -how it got made, problems and workarounds..Many times I’ve re watched movies they have reviewed with new eyes. Best part of my week is when they release a new episode! Love this podcast and the hosts!
-
manayunk wallSometimes these hosts...The hosts really come off as holier than thou. When the hosts look back on older films through the lens of 2024/25 social ethics they just go overboard clutching thier pearls: " I was told a dirty limerick", -the outrage!!!! AND...then reading a one star review OF their podcast ON their podcast to mock/jeer said one star review is a bit injudicious.
-
A podcast addictFun, informative, fabulous narratorsThis is a podcast for movie lovers who want a peak behind the curtain! I follow up each episode with a keen desire to watch the movie they discuss. (And most of them are easy to find.) In a constellation of mediocre podcasts this one’s shine is blinding!! Skip the others and go right to the top!!
-
KYoldtimerGreat movies, a lot of funThe hosts do a great job of digging into some classic movies as well as not so classic movies. I would really like to see them take on a Clint Eastwood movie, though. Maybe one of the old man movies like Unforgiven, Space Cowboys, Gran Torino, Cry Macho…
-
evanseesredPerfect BalanceOther shows can take 15 minutes of banter to get to the meat of an episode. Not these two. They have the perfect balance of light humor and exposition with deeply researched and clearly presented information. It’s really the Goldilocks show in the sense that it balances these elements perfectly.
-
KG MillsFascinating and funnyNot to start on a morbid note, but I discovered this podcast right as my dad was beginning to lose his battle with ALS. During that last rough week, this show was the light but fascinating escape I couldn’t wait to close my day on. Thanks for offering a bright light in a dark time for this amateur film buff.
