Not-So-Serious SamFantastic Pod For Point & Click FansAs someone who grew up on classic adventure game titles like “Myst” and the “Space Quest” series, and continues to revel in newer adventures like “Unavowed” and “Lamplight City” — this is a weekly podcast that I look forward to more than most others. The show is hosted by an affable Irishman whose love for the genre comes across in every episode. My favorite part of each show is the first fifteen minutes or so, where he recaps the week’s developments in adventure game news — exciting new releases, interesting Kickstarter projects, the latest awards or convention recaps, etc. Equal attention is given to “mainstream” titles (such as they are in the adventure world) from established developers, as well as to obscure indie titles that you may not hear about elsewhere. This show is one of my most reliable sources for discovering new games to play. Beyond that, the show basically follows an alternating structure. Every other episode is dedicated to an interview with the developer of a new or upcoming adventure game; and the episodes in between are “review” episodes of the latest games that the hosts have been playing (a co-host from the “Adventure Gamers” website joins for those shows). The focus is mainly on newer games, though the interviews with developers usually start with a discussion of their favorite classic titles (LucasArts titles like “Secret of Monkey Island” seem to be universal favorites, though lesser-remembered games like “Conquests of the Longbow” have also come up). The focus isn’t just on point-and-clicks; there is also sometimes discussion of other narrative forms, such as first-person “walking simulators”. I have yet to hear much talk of visual novels or “interactive fiction” text adventures (a recent episode being a prominent exception), so folks primarily interested in those genres might not find precisely what they’re looking for here. But if you’re a fan of narrative-based games in general, or adventure games in particular, this is definitely one of the best podcasts you can subscribe to!

ReviewinGuyGood idea, needs much better soundI was straining to make out what was being said because the sound is so bad, but the interviews are much appreciated. I hope the creator of the podcast invests in proper sound equipment because the poor sound is going to sink an otherwise good idea for a podcast.

una.lindströmBrilliant Adventure Games PodcastHurrahs! A podcast dedicated to adventure gaming! The focus is on contemporary point-and-clicks and their creators--exactly what my partner and I have been wanting. Conversation with the modern greats as well as industry noobs is lead by a skilled interviewer who only gets better as the series progresses, making for that podcast you've been waiting for... I love that each episode starts with adventure game news, because despite checking ten sites a day, even a reasonably obsessed game fan or dev doesn't necessarily find all of the adventure-specific articles. Much like Back Seat Designers (and its more interactive cousin Open Crowd Source), as well as Blue Cup Tools (hosted by AGS czars Francisco Gonzales and Ben Chandler), The Adventure Games Podcast gives you that delicious combination-fix of fun, insight, inspiration, and of course new games to check out. The Adventure Games Podcast fills the adventure gaming podcast void capably and then some! Thank you, awesome host, you have answered my calls to the universe.
