Please, please, please come back!!! We need you more than ever!

There’s often a big hole left in folk’s lives when they leave a faith they were raised in but find they can no longer believe. Dan, Mark, and Doug do a fantastic job of helping take apart, work with , and process issues surrounding loss of faith, how to live a good life, and avoiding woo while keeping things light hearted and entertaining. Also the series serves as a slow-rolling intro for those not familiar with the absolutely bonkers beliefs of mormonism and the what the whacky folks running most of utah get up to while no one else is looking.

Learning so much about so much about the crazy that is known as religion. Miss you guys.

I miss this show!

I wish this show had existed when I left religion because it would have helped me through a lot of the struggles I faced when leaving religion. This is by far the most useful show for new atheist or non believers, but it is also a great asset to people who have been out of the faith for a long time and those who have never been part of faith.

Sad because I just found this podcast, and now they're on a break! I’m going all the way to the first episode, but I decided to write this after “No Rush”. What was said about that guy…. I don’t even want to say his name…was so personal, meaningful, and accurate, I just wanted to say thank you for speaking ill of the dead. You three are some real standup gentleman in my book. Please come back soon. Thanks for the knowledge and laughs as well.

About as good as they come. Packed full of information you may not know. From ancient religious text, to modern issues. With a mix of seriousness and the best sense of humor. Can’t recommend it enough. I hope this isn’t the Irish goodbye. Miss you guys.

Look, I’m not going to lie. I fell in love with all three of my audio uncles. They gave me hours of entertainment, support, and one of them even made me laugh (maybe that was another show, I can’t be sure). Here is the punchline. They left me, cold and I’m the dark. I left my religious cult, only to find a different kind of cult. Podcasts. Specifically this one. Now they are gone and I’ve decided to start a new religion, the Cult of the Audio Uncles of Saint Stone the Wild. We worship all things Thank God I’m Atheist and we prophesy of their return. We have very specific dates and events laid out for their return and we promise (like fo’ real) that we won’t ever miss an event or a date and everything we say like for sure comes from God and you shouldn’t ever doubt what we say or look for other information on the internet because only we know the truth. Dan, Mark, and Doug are the three best uncles ever and are so much fun!! It’s so great to be able to laugh at the human condition and I feel so validated in my decades old doubts, thoughts, and feelings about my evangelical upbringing. My uncle was a narcissistic alcoholic who slept with my brothers girlfriend. Uncles Mark, Doug, and Dan are the opposite of that.

This show is one of the highlights of my week. The Uncles’ camaraderie is delightful, they are hysterically funny, and the topics they cover are wide-ranging and always interesting. I learn something new from nearly every segment, and the guests always bring humor and/or something profound to the show. And I just giggle whenever the Uncles bestow a saint or a heaven on somebody. All around, this show is just a great good time. Thanks for a wonderful podcast, Uncles!

The audio uncles host a funny, clever, and oh so sensible show that brightens even the Ultimate Void of eldritch entities worse than yours truly, with a hilarious take on human inanity and the follies of religion overstepping its bounds. Solid content, at least compared to we beings of transdimensional muck and ichor, and informative too! May the show continue for aeons, even strange ones, and even when the stars are once again right. Ïa!

Dan, Doug, and Mark are the audio uncles many of us heretics lost leaving religion. They are kind, funny, sincere, and a great resource for any stage on one’s journey. They’ll have you crying, fuming, groaning, and laughing in no time! And I promise it is WAY better than that sounds!

One of my favorite podcasts. I thought the Southern Baptist church I grew up in was insane until these guys taught me about Mormonism.

For a lot of my life, I felt really guilty for “not believing” the religion I was raised in wholeheartedly. These guys point out the ridiculousness of religion in a funny, insightful way, and make me feel so much better about my lack of belief! Excellent show, informative and funny!

...unless you are trumpeting the glory of your Audio Uncles, Dan, Mark, and Doug! These delightful derelicts of delusions will disabuse you of deities from all dimensions! Dare to drown in their dramatic dioramas, but be warned: you might die laughing. No really, it’s great.

I’ve been a faithful listener since the beginning, and this has nestled its way into my heart over the years. All of the audio uncles are fantastic, but I do have a favorite (I’m looking at you Uncle Mark). The show is always full of unusual tidbits of information and witty banter that brighten up my day. I do miss the old interstitial booms, but only because they signaled the show wasn’t over yet, just moving to a new segment. Thank you, uncles, for being so awesome, and for filling the place lacking from real ones.

You’d think there wouldn’t be much more to say after “I don’t believe.” I suppose you could follow up with something more emphatic, like, “I really really REALLY don’t believe.” But then, that should be that. Right? Except, that is most decidedly NOT that. Upon arriving at heretic-ed-ness, what follows is the whole business of getting on with one’s post-religious life. This is where the brave, avuncular hosts of the How-to Heretic Podcast come in. Steadfastly holding aloft the proverbial light at the end of the tenebrous tunnel, each week they provide humor, useful and entertaining information, humor, perspective, humor, news, humor, commentary, and humor. And, lest I forget to mention, humor is involved. Caution: do not let the How-to Heretic’s stated mission fool you. You needn’t be recently religiously liberated to delight in it. Even a longstanding, adjusted heretic will have a ball listening and pick up insights and information. Give it a listen. If you don’t love it, consult a physician immediately.

Since my real life uncles are all Trump sniffing q-anon nuts, it’s great to have some audio uncles to give advice in this wild, crazy world. Dan, Mark and Doug gently guide us through the ins and outs of religious nuttery every week. It’s literally the only reason to wake up on Wednesdays. All three are great, but for the record; I’m team Doug.

The hosts of this show take on the role of friendly rebellious uncles that you can turn to when you realize you have fallen out of religion.Their goal is to inform you about the world you left behind, why are you are better off, and that you are not alone. I recommend this show to everybody who is doubting, who has just left, who got out years ago, or even those who never were religious. The episodes remain topical, so the back catalog is worth giving a listen. You won’t regret getting involved with this show or the community that has grown up around it.

Uncles Dan, Doug, & Mark create a safe and fun environment to learn about the absurdities of the history of the world’s religions. Analyzing a spectrum of well-known to completely baffling religious organizations they give you the freedom to consider for yourself what your beliefs truly entail. So good I have listened to the entire (as of this writing 174 episode) library twice since discovering the podcast in March 2020.

How-to Heretic is a smart and funny program that is always a joy to listen to. It’s perfect for people who listen to podcasts to learn interesting facts about history and religion.

This podcast has been invaluable for me dealing with the anger of my religious upbringing. Exposing and laughing at the absurdity of the ideas I used to hold has been therapeutic and enlightening to me on a very personal level, and it is all thanks to my new favorite uncles. And Dan too.

I can’t wait to hear my adopted uncles each week. Had to toss in a few bucks to get it early. They manage to keep the most boring and unimportant subject funny and relevant. Good job guys.

The hilarious and ridiculous yet compassionate and insightful topics of this show are a lighthearted voice for the secular community. I listen while I work and during my on-call shifts as an EMT. These Audio Uncles help me maintain my sanity in these difficult times of Covid!

This is easily one of my favorite podcasts. Our uncles have created a space where we can feel safe joking about a shared trauma many of us share, religion, but also validate us on a very difficult decision to leave. After years of religious doctrine being the only source of knowledge about our religions, it’s liberating to allow ourselves to look at the churches official doctrine in a new light. How-to Heretic has made that usually extremely boring task a lot more bearable.

Our Audio Uncles are great. They take a critical look at religion/cults without attacking the followers of it. They are very helpful for people who are no longer a part of religion (be it a long time or recent). Each uncle has compassion for people. They understand that humans are basically house plants with emotions. Purple Nurple

If you ever want to do another “lost continent” story I recommend looking into the lost kingdom of Mu. It started out as an alternative name for Lemuria but went on to develop its own mythology. Some guy named Churchward even tried to pull a Joe Smith and “discovered” some ancient tablets only he could translate and that no one else was allowed to see. It then takes a sharp turn into white supremacy as these unseen tablets told of a pure white race that did all the smart stuff in ancient times before getting slurped back into the ocean. Mu also shows up as a trope in a lot of Japanese science fiction for some reason.

The uncles are your true gods. All other gods are false gods. Fall to your knees and worship them. They will answer your prayers and provide for you always. Put your faith in them and in them alone. Praise be the uncles, for they will grant ye sainthood and eternal life in heaven. Although your heaven might not be exactly what you’re expecting. Or wanting. Or even like a little. But they are gods and it is their way. Please don’t smite me. Purple nurple.

I deconverted a couple of years ago, listening to my favorite uncles helped a lot. I still listen bc they’re funny and compassionate. THTH is my favorite podcast.

I listened to Reasonable Doubts way back when, and it helped me get through my deconversion. I was super bummed when they quit doing their pod. I still listen to it over and over though. This combined with TGIA have been the closest I’ve been able to find. Extra bonus for finding out you kids are right here in SLC with me!

This podcast is a delightful combination of instruction manual, encyclopedia, and support group. Whether you're just starting to question your religious beliefs, or you're a lifelong athiest, this podcast has a something for you. And if you become a patron, the title of this review will make sense.

So I’ve been trying to write this for a while but I just want to say that this podcast has improved my life quite a bit in the few weeks I’ve been listening. The humorous and yet oddly wholesome at times take on skepticism and the awful things religion does. Every story told by uncles Dan, Doug, and Mark teaches me things that frustrate me but do so in a way that softens the blow. This is not in a way that makes the problem seem lesser but prevents me from swearing out loud at work... most of the time. In addition I have recently officially given up on religion and they have helped me break through the “angry atheist” stage and more on to the “just making fun of them” stage. I would absolutely recommend his to anyone, even certain sections to my very Mormon parents. Thanks to Dan, Doug, and Mark for this. Imaginary Lloyd

I finally realized I was in a cult, unfortunately it took 57 years. Never fear though, Uncles Dan, Doug and Mark have brought humor and therapy to help me through the mess. Thanks Uncles! This podcast is most excellent episode after episode!
