Mark and his guests get right to the heart of the matter!! Here are truly interestig artists and styles with which your might not be familiar. Mark is able to bring out the essence of the songs, both musically and lyrically. Mark's humorous and genial style makes these interviews a pleasure to listen to. This show is a real pearl!

I’m hooked! I love the approach. I really enjoy all the different personalities and types of music. The lyrical and musical analysis really makes the songs fun to listen. As I listen to the tracks, I find myself trying to predict what Mark will choose to discuss with the artists. It makes me pay attention to the details. There’s a lot of great discussion about lyrics. If your a songwriter, I think this podcast will inspire you to write some quality lyrics. If your a music lover who’s into words, this podcast is for you.

I listened to an episode because I knew and liked the artist who was featured ... and then I kept listening because I enjoyed learning about new and unfamiliar (to me) artists working in different genres. The format of the podcast is engaging, and the host has a lot of energy and passion. Each episode showcases three songs, which grounds the discussion and reveals different aspects of the singing/songwriting endeavor. Highly recommended, especially if you’re looking for something new.

In almost every case, I am ONLY disappointed when the interview ends. It's like the old music appreciation class, but on steroids, and no exams/papers!

At first listen you'll notice this is no "ordinary" music podcast. Host Mark Linsenmayer probes deeply into the psyche of musicians and unveils the magic behind their craft. From session players to video game composers, NEM explores the inner workings of their abilities as told by the musicians themselves with thoughtful analysis by Mark which compels the listener to think outside their musical comfort zone. The fact that Mark has a psychology background only enriches the inquisitive nature of the program and does a great job at examining the theory & technology behind their works of art.

Mark is incredibly thorough and asks interesting questions. As a rare combination of musician and philosopher he was the perfect person to ask questions about my music. It was fun to talk with him and a privilege to be part of his list of amazing artists. Great podcasts!

With this podcast I can find unusual music in small doses with LOTS of analysis and insight into the creative experience. That is how I like it. I don't want to listen to music "mindlessly." I am really overjoyed.

Been listening to PEL for a year now. Hurts my brain but enjoy trying to get it. Now Mark brings that depth to this new podcast. You had me at Camper Van Beethoven!

These interviews are an artist's dream. Mark researches and learns as much as he can about each artist and their music catalog. He further prepares by researching and disecting the songs to be used in the interview to the extent of mentally transcribing them. Having a vast amount of musical listening, performing, and writing knowledge Mark knows just the right questions to ask. The artists feel at home and are often geniunely delighted to be asked intellegent and insightful questions about their work. Mark's rich baritone voice is enjoyable to listen to and has a professional quality that cannot be overstated. His mind works very quickly and propels the interviews forward in such a way that ones interest can be kept for the duration of the podcasts. Best of all, Mark finds artists with wonderful minds that are dedicated to their craft and brings to light music that is both mind expanding and deserving to be heard.

Sometimes it's interesting to actually see (or hear in this case) how the "sausage" is made.

This podcast gives a window into how excellent music is made. It is a new must for any music lover.
